The Importance of Travel Socks
During my expeditions, I have found that one of the most important items to bring is a pair of travel socks. Travel compression socks apply a graduated pressure on the lower leg and foot, becoming looser the further up the leg they extend, thus with minimal movement, they assist in pumping blood from your feet and legs to your heart.
The heart attempts to equally distribute blood to all of your extremities throughout the day, however, gravity goes down. This can cause blood to pool in the feet and the legs without any cardiovascular activities.
Travel socks are designed to keep your feet warm, prevent bacteria, and prevent swelling, but most importantly keep you developing deep vein thrombosis. Poor circulation and remaining stationary for extended periods of time can lead to DVT, so I bring to you the best travel socks, and really, you should own AT LEAST one pair. This is especially true if you travel often or have a disability that limits your movement.
SmartWool Travel Socks ($17)
The best brand on the market, Smartwool travel socks stay cushioned, dry, and bacteria free no matter how long you wear them. Designed for long use, Smartwool doesn’t itch, doesn’t shrink (even after washing), and doesn’t stink due to its 90 percent makeup of a fibrous structural protein called keratin. I own these socks and they are THE MOST comfortable, relaxing, and make you feel good socks I have ever put on my feet. In fact, they are one of my most prized articles of clothing. These travel socks will keep your feet warm in winter and cool in the summer. That’s no joke.
X-Static Travel Socks ($14)
X-Static Travel Socks are made of breathable and quick drying Coolmax fabric. They also utilize the Wick Dry Health System to wick away moisture and keep your feet dry. They prevent blisters as well. The nylon is silver coated preventing bacteria, and a Lycra 3D knit allows them to keep their shape so not stretching. With a cushioned insole and a seam that can’t be felt, the X-Static travel socks are a great buy!
Travel Sox Travel Socks($30 USD)
Travel Sox are also made from Coolmax, keeping the feet free of moisture. Developed in Italy in conjunction with doctors, Travel Sox brand travel socks were designed with the notion of tiredness and alleviation of swelling during long trips. Travel Sox can be worn daily (with a wash of course) for increased blood flow and more energy throughout the day.
A Must Have
It’s very important that if you are a traveler or simply cannot be as mobile as you’d like, compression travel socks are great to own. I suggest checking online for the best prices. Makes sure you buy the appropriate mens travel socks or womens travel socks, depending on which you are. Safe and happy travels! Leave a comment if you know of any other brands you have tried and love!
